Lexington Public Schools enrolls mainly Asian students in 2022-23 school year

Asian was the most represented ethnicity among Lexington Public Schools students in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

In total, there were 3,059 Asian students enrolled, accounting for 44.7% of the district's student body.

The number of Asian students attending schools in the district increased 5.3% over the previous school year.

Meanwhile, Black or African American students were the least represented ethnic group within the schools in Lexington Public Schools.

Lexington Public Schools roughly covers schools within Middlesex County, and has a main office in Lexington.

The total number of students attending the district’s schools grew to 6,845 over the 2022-23 school year.

Students in Massachusetts are predominantly white, according to state data from 2023-24, representing 53% of the state's student body.

Across the state, Hispanic and Latino students saw the highest high school dropout rates.

Under representation is also found among educators in Massachusetts. The Rennie Center reported that only 7.8% of teachers identified as people of color in 2022.
