Lowell Public Schools District’s student-to-teacher ratio remained unchanged in 2021-22 school year

The ratio of students to teachers in Lowell Public Schools District remained unchanged in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 13,991 students being taught by 1,089.7 teachers in Lowell Public Schools District, which covers schools within Middlesex County and has a main office in Lowell. That's an average of 12.8 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Lowell Public Schools District had 14,023 students and 1,092 teachers on staff.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.

Massachusetts was ranked as the eighth best state for teachers, according to a WalletHub study.
