The UMass Lowell women’s outdoor track and field team participated in both the Friar Invitational at Providence and the Tufts Spring Invitational at Tufts on April 10. The River Hawks split their squad between the two meets, competing in a range of track and field events.

This dual participation allowed more athletes to compete in different disciplines, offering opportunities for personal bests and team development. The team’s performances provided valuable experience as they continue their outdoor season.

At the Friar Invitational, senior Maggie McInerney was the only River Hawk to run in the 400-meter dash, finishing twelfth out of sixteen with a time of 59.65 seconds. In the 800-meter open, junior Emily Burdick led UMass Lowell with a fourth-place finish among twenty-nine runners, clocking in at 2:16.06. Senior Raihana Yameogo finished eighth with a time of 2:16.95, while sophomore Brenna Corcoran took sixteenth (2:19.14) and junior Julie Condon placed twentieth (2:21.72).

In the one-mile open event, sophomore Salma Boukhtam finished twelfth out of forty-one competitors with a time of 5:10.75. Junior Emma Eagan secured eighteenth place (5:14.90), followed by senior Miana Caraballo in twentieth (5:15.77). Sophomore Lauren Long completed her race in eighth place for the 5,000 meters with a mark of 17:54.52.

On the field side, graduate student Fleur Balogh de Galantha won first place as she cleared 1.61 meters in high jump.

At day one of the Tufts Spring Invitational heptathlon events, freshman Nyrah Joseph finished first among River Hawks in the opening event—the 100-meter hurdles—with a time of 14.82 seconds; senior Paige Murphy followed with sixth place (16.13). Both then competed closely together during high jump—Joseph clearing eighth place at 1.46 meters and Murphy ninth at 1.43 meters—before Joseph reached fourth position in shot put (10.61m) while Murphy took tenth (9.53m). In their final event for day one—the 200 meters—Joseph was fourth (26.52) while Murphy came sixth (27.49).

“The group took advantage of the great weather today,” said Associate Head Coach Ally Waruch.”I am happy with everyone’s day one as a whole. They are all in a good position to score at the end of day two.”
