The UMass Lowell women’s lacrosse team will return home to play against the UMBC Retrievers on Saturday, April 11, with the opening draw scheduled for noon at Cushing Field in Lowell, Massachusetts.
This matchup is important for both teams as they look to improve their records in conference play. The River Hawks currently hold a record of four wins and eight losses overall and are seeking their first America East Conference win of the season. Meanwhile, UMBC enters the contest with six wins and five losses, holding one conference victory so far.
In their most recent game, senior Kaitlynn Anderson scored a career-high four goals for UMass Lowell in an 18-7 loss to Binghamton. Senior Macy Shultz led her team with five points from two goals and an assist. Other contributors included sophomore Georgia Ruscitti with a goal and an assist, while Grace Lydon and Bronwyn Hilbert each added assists.
Shultz leads the River Hawks this season with 32 points and 16 assists through twelve games. Hilbert follows closely behind with 30 points from eighteen goals and twelve assists. Junior Chloe Bowers has contributed a team-best twenty-five goals along with one assist for twenty-six total points, tying Lydon in total scoring output. On defense, Rachel Stax leads draw controls while Madison Carter has forced fourteen turnovers this year. In goal, Alexa Kuhn has made fifty-six saves across six starts.
Lydon recently reached her hundredth career point after recording a hat trick against UAlbany—a milestone achieved by only eight players in program history so far. Earlier this season against Furman University, the River Hawks set new program records by scoring twenty goals and notching fifteen assists in one game; Bowers finished that match with seven goals—the second-most ever by a player at UMass Lowell—and Shultz tied the single-game record for assists set by current assistant coach Megan Brockbank.
Kuhn was named America East Goalkeeper of the Week following strong performances early in the season while freshman Brienne Brezynskie earned Rookie of the Week honors after recording a hat trick—including her first collegiate game-winner—alongside notable defensive stats.
UMBC comes into Saturday’s game looking to end a three-game losing streak after falling to UAlbany last week. Emily Knapp leads their offense as both conference leader in points per game (3.36) and top scorer with thirty-seven goals so far this year.
Historically, UMBC holds nine wins out of ten meetings between these teams; however, UMass Lowell claimed its first series victory last time out behind Jillian Goldie’s record-setting nine-point performance.
