The UMass Lowell women’s lacrosse team won against the New Hampshire Wildcats, 15-12, on April 18 after a strong defensive performance in the second half.
This victory brings UMass Lowell’s record to six wins and eight losses overall, and two wins and three losses in America East play. The game saw contributions from several players as the River Hawks overcame an early deficit to secure the win.
Senior Grace Lydon led her team with four goals and one assist, matching freshman Brienne Brezynskie’s tally of four goals and one assist. Senior Macy Shultz added three goals and an assist. Redshirt freshman Chiara Pompei scored twice, while junior Bronwyn Hilbert contributed two assists. Junior Marlee Green and sophomore Georgia Ruscitti each added a goal. Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Lorentzen made five saves during her start.
Head Coach Lisa Miller said, “Another nail-biter. New Hampshire gave us everything they had. Nice to see our attack generate 40 shots and the defensive group, including Lauren, settle in and limit opportunities and make plays in the second half. We are chipping away. On to Vermont.” The River Hawks’ defense held New Hampshire scoreless for the final 26 minutes of play as Lydon scored four consecutive goals to help take control of the match.
UMass Lowell will host Vermont for their final regular season game on Saturday, April 25 at Cushing Field.
