The UMass Lowell softball team secured an 8–4 win over Maine on Apr. 12 after scoring six runs in the seventh inning during the series finale at the Labat Softball Complex.

The game was marked by a comeback effort from UMass Lowell, who trailed early but rallied late to clinch the victory. The result gives the River Hawks a record of 20–19 overall and 10–5 in America East play.

Junior Madi Wade and sophomore Emily Baumes each drove in two runs during the decisive seventh inning. Junior Olivia DeCitise pitched in relief for UMass Lowell, holding Maine scoreless over more than six innings while striking out ten batters.

UMass Lowell narrowed an early deficit with a two-run single from junior Isabel Quintanilla in the fourth inning. Defensive highlights included freshman Ella Van Alstyne making a leaping catch at the wall to prevent a home run by Maine.

In their final at-bat, sophomore Avery Spinello-Branch started the rally with a bunt single before Baumes tied it up with her base hit. Wade’s go-ahead single gave UMass Lowell its first lead, followed by insurance runs from junior Elizabeth Neeld and freshman Julia Rowley. DeCitise finished off Maine in the bottom half of the inning to seal the win.

Baumes and Wade both went two-for-four with two RBI each as part of UMass Lowell’s ten-hit performance. Seven different River Hawks players recorded hits during the game.

Looking ahead, UMass Lowell is scheduled to host Holy Cross for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
