The UMass Lowell softball team lost a close game, 4–3, to UAlbany in the series finale at River View Field on April 26. Junior Isabel Quintanilla drove in all three runs for the River Hawks, while junior Olivia DeCitise pitched a complete game, allowing four runs—two of them earned—on four hits and striking out two.
The outcome matters as it affects both teams’ records within their conference standings. The River Hawks now stand at 24–22 overall and 11–7 in America East play, while UAlbany improves to 21–18 overall and 10–7 in conference games.
UAlbany opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning. Quintanilla responded for Lowell with a two-run double that gave her team an early lead. The Great Danes tied it up again with an RBI single in the third inning, but Quintanilla added another run for Lowell with a sacrifice fly after Thyanais Santiago doubled and Elizabeth Neeld scored.
DeCitise kept UAlbany scoreless through the middle innings before things changed in the seventh when UAlbany used a two-run double to take back the lead. Despite working six walks during the game, Lowell was held to just four hits and could not answer back in their final at-bat.
Quintanilla finished one-for-two with three runs batted in. Santiago and freshman Julia Rowley each contributed a hit as well.
Looking ahead, “The River Hawks wrap up the regular season next weekend at Binghamton.”
