UMass Lowell Field Hockey Head Coach Shannon LeBlanc announced on Apr. 30 the appointment of Christina Wagner and Florine Gerrits as team captains for the 2026 season.
The announcement highlights a leadership transition, with both Wagner and Gerrits stepping into the captain roles for the first time in their collegiate careers. Their selection comes as they enter their senior year with the River Hawks.
LeBlanc said, “Flo and Chrissy set an incredibly high standard for themselves, and their influence has had a meaningful impact on the team during their time here. What sets them apart as leaders is their commitment to our culture of excellence. They are driven to leave a lasting legacy through their work ethic, accountability and the example they set every day. We are excited to have them serve as captains for the 2026 team. They are true role models in the classroom, and on and off the field.”
Wagner is majoring in computer science and has been recognized three times by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad. She played in all 18 games during the previous season, starting in 11 matches while recording one goal and three assists.
Gerrits studies business administration and is a two-time NFHCA National Academic Squad honoree. She also participated in all games last season with 17 starts, tallying two goals along with five assists, including two assists during an away victory against Dartmouth.
The new captains will lead UMass Lowell’s field hockey program into its next campaign as they look to build upon both academic achievements and athletic contributions.
