The UMass Lowell men’s lacrosse team is preparing for two key matchups, first against Queens University of Charlotte on March 10 and then opening conference play at Binghamton on March 14. The River Hawks, currently holding a 2-2 record, are looking to recover after a recent loss to the nationally ranked Massachusetts Minutemen.
These games are important as the team seeks to build momentum before entering their conference schedule. A win against Queens could help the River Hawks regain confidence following their setback.
In their last outing, sophomore Danny Burke scored a career-high five goals despite the team’s 18-8 defeat. Several other players contributed points, including Alex Lafreniere with a goal and an assist, while Carter O’Brien made a personal-best 14 saves in net. Burke and Lafreniere currently lead the team with nine goals and twelve points each this season.
Earlier in the year, James Donnelly set a new Division I single-game program record by scoring eight points against Mercyhurst, helping force overtime where UMass Lowell eventually secured victory. This marked their first overtime win since defeating UMBC in extra time during the 2019 season.
Queens enters Tuesday’s game with a 2-4 record, led by Carter Petersen’s 23 points and Ryan McDaniel’s eleven assists. Binghamton stands at 1-5 overall; Andrew Girolamo leads them with seventeen points while Connor Winters has started all six games in goal. Historically, Queens defeated UMass Lowell in overtime last year, while Binghamton holds an 8-2 advantage over the River Hawks in previous meetings.
The outcomes of these matches will shape UMass Lowell’s early season trajectory as they look to improve their standing ahead of further conference play.
