The UMass Lowell men’s lacrosse team lost to the NJIT Highlanders, 10-8, on April 11. Sophomore Danny Burke led the River Hawks with four points, but the team was unable to complete a second half comeback.
The game was significant as it marked another close contest for UMass Lowell in conference play. The result leaves the River Hawks with a record of 2-8 overall and 0-4 in America East competition.
Burke finished with two goals and two assists. Freshman Ryan Proctor scored three goals, earning his first career hat trick. Juniors Colby Frigon and Johnny Soi each contributed a goal and an assist, while redshirt sophomore James Donnelly also found the net. Junior Maverick Chedel and sophomore Brady Brennan each added an assist. In goal, junior Scott Kosakowski made a career-high 17 saves during his second start of the season.
Head Coach Drew Kelleher said, “I’m proud of our resilience tonight in battling on the road. Their goalie made some great saves late, but we’ve got to find a way to make the plays at the end.” The River Hawks’ defense forced several turnovers early in the game and kept NJIT scoreless through most of the first quarter before falling behind by five goals at halftime.
After halftime, UMass Lowell’s offense responded quickly with multiple goals from Frigon, Donnelly, Soi, Burke and Proctor that narrowed NJIT’s lead. Despite pulling within one goal late in the fourth quarter following a scoring run highlighted by Proctor’s third goal of the night, NJIT secured their win with another late score.
UMass Lowell will return home for their final home game of 2026 against Vermont Catamounts on Senior Day scheduled for Saturday, April 18 at Cushing Field.
