The UMass Lowell baseball team will conclude its 12-game homestand at Edward A. LeLacheur Park on Tuesday, April 13, with a matchup against Stonehill before heading to UMBC for a weekend conference series.
This stretch is significant as the River Hawks aim to improve their standing in the America East Conference. The team currently holds a 13–18 overall record and is tied for fifth place in the conference at 5–7.
In their most recent games, UMass Lowell secured a series win over NJIT by taking two out of three contests. In game one, they recorded an 11–2 victory with contributions from multiple players including Cal Chance and Jorge Burgos. Pitcher Alfred Mucciarone earned his second win of the season while Brian Foley provided effective relief work. The second game saw a late comeback and ended with Rowan Masse delivering a walk-off hit in extra innings for a 4–3 win. Despite falling short in the final game of the series, Burgos stood out with four hits and three runs batted in.
Several River Hawks are leading statistically within both the team and conference ranks. Sean O’Leary leads UMass Lowell in batting average (.299) and shares top marks in triples and runs scored. Carlos Martinez recently became UMass Lowell’s Division I career leader in doubles after hitting his 44th double on March 25 against Northeastern. On March 27, Mucciarone threw a complete game against Maine, striking out seven batters without allowing an earned run.
Stonehill enters Tuesday’s contest following a victory over FDU and features key contributors such as Sam Perks and Nathan Kearney offensively, while Ryan Douglas anchors their pitching staff. UMBC comes into this week after being swept by Binghamton but remains tied for third place in America East play; Kyle Eddington leads their offense with a .341 average.
Historically, Stonehill leads the all-time series over UMass Lowell by one game (8–7), though the River Hawks have won five of eight home meetings including last year’s contest on April 2. Against UMBC, UMass Lowell trails all-time but won their most recent meeting on April 13 last year.
