Lori Trahan, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Massachusetts’ 3rd district since 2019, has voiced her opposition to recent budget proposals through a series of tweets. Trahan, who succeeded Niki Tsongas and previously served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, expressed her concerns regarding the potential impacts on social programs.
On July 2, 2025, Trahan highlighted proposed cuts to food assistance programs: ” Slashes food assistance (SNAP) by 20%. That’s 5 million people losing help to buy food. Millions of kids will lose access to school breakfast and lunch programs.” This statement underscores her concern for the welfare of millions who rely on such programs.
In another tweet from the same day, she addressed funding cuts affecting women’s health services: ” Defunds Planned Parenthood. Millions of women will lose access to cancer screenings, birth control, and preventive care they count on.” Her comments reflect apprehension about the impact on healthcare access for women.
Concluding her remarks with a declaration of intent regarding an upcoming vote, Trahan stated: “I’m voting NO. Because Massachusetts families deserve better. Because we need budgets that lift people up — not tear them down to give billionaires another tax cut. Stay tuned. I’ll have more to say after the vote.” Her commitment is clear as she stands against policies she believes would harm constituents in favor of tax benefits for wealthier individuals.
Lori Trahan was born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1973 and currently resides in Westford. She graduated from Georgetown University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
