Lori Trahan, a U.S. Congress member representing Massachusetts’ 3rd District, shared her views on recent legislative developments via social media. Trahan addressed the implications of a bill proposed under former President Trump’s administration, particularly concerning health coverage and Medicaid.
On May 12, 2025, Trahan highlighted findings from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office regarding Trump’s bill. She stated that the bill “will eliminate health coverage for at least 13.7 MILLION people.” The proposed changes involve significant cuts amounting to $715 billion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, despite previous assurances against reducing Americans’ healthcare.
In a subsequent post on the same day, Trahan discussed the introduction of “work requirements” for Medicaid eligibility. These stipulations require individuals who are not disabled to work in order to qualify for Medicaid benefits. However, she noted that most recipients are already employed.
Trahan also cited Georgia as an example where only “2% of eligible residents received coverage,” with most state spending directed towards administrative costs rather than healthcare services. She expressed concern over implementing this policy nationwide.
