Lori Trahan, currently serving as a U.S. Congresswoman representing Massachusetts’ 3rd District, recently shared her perspectives on significant political issues via social media. Her tweets addressed concerns about proposed Medicaid cuts and their implications on various sectors, including healthcare and maternal health.
On May 14, 2025, Trahan commented on the actions of disabled Americans, parents, and caregivers who traveled to Washington to oppose Medicaid cuts that she claimed would fund tax breaks for billionaires. She noted the response from Republicans was to “arrest them.”
Later that day, Trahan highlighted America’s standing in terms of preventable maternal deaths among developed nations. She criticized Republican efforts to reduce Medicaid funding despite its coverage of 40% of births nationwide. Trahan expressed her disapproval by stating “I called them out for pouring gasoline on the maternal health crisis.”
Continuing her critique on legislative decisions over the past day and a half, Trahan pointed out that House Republicans had rejected all Democratic amendments aimed at protecting Americans’ healthcare and reducing costs for working families. These amendments also sought to keep pollution out of schools among other objectives. However, she observed that Republicans did not support these initiatives.
Trahan has been an active member of Congress since 2019 after succeeding Niki Tsongas. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1973, she holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University.
