Lori Trahan, U.S. Congresswoman representing Massachusetts’ 3rd district since 2019, has used her social media platform to voice concerns over recent health care and government funding debates in Congress. In a series of posts from October 6 to October 8, 2025, Trahan criticized House Republicans for their stance on health care and the government shutdown.

On October 6, Trahan wrote, “While millions of Americans are terrified of losing their health coverage, House Republicans aren’t even at the negotiating table. @HouseDemocrats are ready to end the GOP health care crisis. We just need them to come back to work and do their job.”

The following day, Trahan posted in Spanish: “Los republicanos cerraron el gobierno, y las familias trabajadoras pagarán el precio. Estamos luchando para proteger los seguros médicos a bajo costo para más de 20 millones de americanos.” This statement addressed the impact of the government shutdown on working families and emphasized efforts to protect affordable health insurance for over 20 million Americans.

On October 8, Trahan highlighted the importance of health coverage for vulnerable groups: “Health care coverage is not a luxury, it’s a lifeline for families raising children with chronic conditions and rare diseases. Republican cuts to Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program will put children and families in harm’s way.”

Trahan has been an advocate for accessible health care during her tenure in Congress. She succeeded Niki Tsongas in 2019 and previously served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Trahan was born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1973 and resides in Westford. She graduated from Georgetown University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Her recent statements reflect ongoing partisan disagreements over government funding and health care programs such as Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which have historically provided support to low-income families and children across the United States.
