Lori Trahan, U.S. Congresswoman representing Massachusetts’ 3rd district since 2019, recently posted a series of statements on her official social media account addressing the ongoing government shutdown and its effects on local communities.

On November 4, 2025, Trahan highlighted the strain placed on families due to the shutdown, stating: “The Republican government shutdown is forcing families to their breaking point. I’m grateful to communities like Fitchburg that are stepping up to feed families, seniors and veterans. But this shouldn’t have to happen.”

In a subsequent post made the same day, she called for bipartisan cooperation in Congress and action from former President Donald Trump regarding federal nutrition assistance funds: “It’s time for Donald Trump to distribute SNAP funds and GOP leaders to work in a bipartisan way to protect Americans’ benefits and reopen the government.”

Later that afternoon, Trahan commented on local economic resilience following the closure of a marketplace in Lowell’s Mill No. 5: “Losing the marketplace in Mill No. 5 felt like a gut punch for so many in our community. That’s why I couldn’t be more thrilled to see the Hive Public Market up and running less than a year later – allowing small business owners to come together and thrive!”

Trahan has represented Massachusetts’s 3rd District since succeeding Niki Tsongas in 2019. She was born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1973 and currently resides in Westford. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives and graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1995.
