Lori Trahan, U.S. Congresswoman representing Massachusetts’ 3rd district since 2019, posted a series of messages on her official X account in early October 2025 addressing the government shutdown and extending holiday wishes to constituents.
On October 1, Trahan criticized Republican lawmakers regarding the ongoing government shutdown. She wrote, “Republicans shut down the government to protect billionaire tax breaks – paid for by ripping health care away from millions of hardworking Americans. Now that they can’t defend that, they’re resorting to blatant lies.”
The following day, on October 2, she acknowledged Yom Kippur with a message to those observing the holiday: “Wishing all those observing Yom Kippur a meaningful day of reflection and renewal. G’mar chatima tova!”
Later on October 2, Trahan addressed constituents directly about her office’s availability during the shutdown: “Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress shut down the government, but my office is open and working for you. If you have questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to contact me: https://t.co/eCkI1Es8LP”
Trahan has represented Massachusetts’ 3rd District in Congress since succeeding Niki Tsongas in 2019. Prior to her congressional service, she was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Born in Lowell in 1973 and currently residing in Westford, Trahan graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1995.
