Lori Trahan, a U.S. Congress member representing Massachusetts’ 3rd district since 2019, has taken to social media to critique recent claims made by former President Donald Trump regarding a new bill. Her posts aim to address and refute statements concerning tax cuts, deficit reduction, and border security.

On July 4, 2025, Trahan addressed Trump’s claim that the bill eliminates taxes on overtime. She stated “FALSE. Like the taxes on tips provision, Republicans capped a deduction at just $12,500 for workers who make overtime pay. It’s also temporary through 2028 while the corporate tax cuts are permanent under the bill.”

In another post on the same day, Trahan disputed Trump’s assertion that the bill will decrease the deficit. She declared “FALSE. The Big, Ugly Bill explodes our national debt by $6 TRILLION over the next decade.” She further criticized it for cutting taxes for billionaires and affecting millions of Americans negatively.

Additionally, Trahan challenged Trump’s statement about securing the border with this legislation. According to her post “FALSE. The legislation supercharges mass deportation efforts that are targeting law abiding, taxpaying workers while funneling $80 BILLION to private prison corporations and their shareholders (including many White House staffers).”

Trahan has been active in Congress since succeeding Niki Tsongas in 2019 and previously served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Born in Lowell in 1973 and currently residing in Westford, she is an alumna of Georgetown University.
